MOAM

M.O.A.M. responds to the need to rethink the area of Piazza Castello and Foro Buonaparte by envisioning this public space, with its monumental dimensions and proportions, as a large open-air museum dedicated to celebrating and promoting Milanese culture.
Located at the terminus of the city’s most important pedestrian and tourist axis, this sequence of spaces inherently attracts diverse flows but requires a new unified organization to better integrate them within the urban system.
The foundational idea is to structure the Piazza Castello system inspired by a museum layout, creating a journey from the external plaza to the entrance, from the foyer to the exhibition hall, guiding visitors from Via Dante and Largo Cairoli to the interior of the Castello Sforzesco and then into the park.
Content-wise, M.O.A.M. seizes the opportunity provided by its location to offer citizens and tourists information about the city itself. It aims to function as a sort of “Museum of Museums,” channeling visitor flows towards the numerous museum centers, while also serving as a space to celebrate all the cultural excellences—and the figures associated with them—that have made Milan famous worldwide.
This innovative approach not only enhances the cultural landscape of Milan but also fosters a deeper connection between residents, visitors, and the city’s rich heritage.
