We approached the design of the new Barilla Pavilion as the opportunity to ponder on Nature, the Human Being, Work, Art, Wellness, Technology and the relationship that binds them. First of all we’d like to encourage visitors to get to Parma by car or train and then reach the Barilla Pavilion using a Bike Rent service. We believe this strategy is not a secondary one, as it embodies the first step of a unique experience, one that forces us to a slow, contemplative approach to the road.
Barilla Pavilion is surrounded and even invaded by the Park. In a way, the Park IS the Pavilion itself: all of its buildings are deeply immersed in nature. This theme park allows you to have a first-hand experience of Nature in a way that reflects the values of the Barilla Group.
The built part of the project lies in the middle of the park. More than just a pavilion, a system, a mechanism blending with nature thanks to its structure, articulated around different functions: to each function, a designated building connected to the big hanging ring that outlines a green square around them. This big ring touches the ground on a few selected points, respecting the rural garden as much as possible. This way visitors can experience all features without time constraints and in complete freedom. An indoor walkway suspended in the ring provides access to all the buildings, allowing for a complete experience of the Pavilion.
The form of each building evokes the function it hosts. Elementary shapes, featuring a complex outer texture that creates patterns of openings, both recurring and always different from one another. Each structure has its own individual value that is enhanced by the relationship with all the others.

Il progetto per il nuovo padiglione Barilla è stata un'occasione per riflettere sui temi riguardanti la Natura, l'Uomo, il Lavoro, l'Arte, la Tecnologia e le relazioni che si intessono tra questi. Come primo principio fondativo si è voluto incoraggaire il visitatore a raggiungere il padiglione in bici dalla città di Parma, grazie a un sistema Bike Rent. Riteniamo che non sia una strategia secondaria, in quanto simboleggia il primo passo verso un'esperienza unica, che ci costringe a rallentare e contemplare.
Il padiglione Barilla è circondato e in un certo senso invaso dal Parco. In un certo senso il Parco è il padiglione stesso: tutti i suoi edifici sono infatti profondamente immersi nella natura. In questo modo si permette di esperire la Natura in maniera diretta, incarnando quelli che sono i valori del Gruppo Barilla.
Al centro del parco c’è la parte edificata del Barilla Pavilion, non un padiglione, piuttosto un meccanismo, un ingranaggio che si mescola con la natura grazie alla sua conformazione divisa per funzioni, per ciascuna delle quali corrisponde un edificio collegato al grande anello sospeso, che li racchiude in una piazza verde. Il grande anello si appoggia puntualmente al suolo nel massimo rispetto del giardino rurale. In ogni edificio è destinata una funzione, al massimo due, di quelle che prevede il programma di concorso, in modo che ognuna di esse possa vivere ed essere utilizzata in modo autonomo senza la necessità che tutto il padiglione sia aperto. Ogni funzione potrà essere vissuta per il tempo necessario in libertà e senza interferenze.
Per ogni edificio è stata pensata una forma, che evochi la funzione che contiene. Forme elementari, dalla pelle complessa che ne definisce le aperture in ricorsi reiterati ma sempre nuovi. Ogni edifico assume cosi un autentico valore individuale che moltiplica il valore nel rapporto con l’altro.
