In contrast with the current situation, of a residual space without any character, the project proposes a new piazza conceived as a 'single object', that strongly interacts with both the urban context and the waterfront system with the other existing squares. Two main strategies: on one side, a new paving that becomes the proper square, a geometry generated by the context and colors recalling the Duomo di Pisa's facade.
This extends up to the limit of existing buildings and even beyond, defining a space safe from vehicular traffic, dedicated to relations, recreation and the weekly market. On the other side, the insertion of vegetation, today completely missing, thus identifying an area suitable for bigger events, ideally connected with the surrounding pine forest. The paving gently rises with a mesh-like geometry on the limit between the two areas, facilitating the view of the sea, which can also be reached through a wooden walkway over the rocks.
